Quotes From Our Members

Cancer Support
Have you heard about cancer support
It's a group that is here to help you
They give you a lift when needed
And make all your battles seem few.

They too have seen some of their loved ones
Fight cancer and know what to do
They have bonded together to help you
So phone whenever you're blue.

Give them a call when desperate
Don't sit and cry all alone
Believe me you'll be happy to meet them
And to them you really can moan.

A word about the Cancer Support group, I am a member having lost a husband and daughter with Cancer within five months of each other. Without their help and assistance, I do not think I could have dealt with it. The group members have either had it, or looked after a relative with it, some are still battling with it. Please join us and help us to aid others. We are really just a big family and can bring joy back into your life; we all need each other to share our burdens.

Each one of us has worries that dwell inside our mind
We keep them under surface, so others cannot find
Buried deep inside us, we will not let them go
So in our hearts or maybe minds, our fears we do not show
Sometimes they’re better dealt with a friend you know sincere
All members at our meeting might dissipate your fears.

The last words that Jill said to me were “I am so pleased that I joined the Group …….”
I replied softly “ …..and so am I …..”
She spoke quietly, with feeling - with relief! and with such warmth....it was so different to the Jill I had been used to hearing. There was no “sharpness” in her tone. That was all we said, it said it all.

I like coming to the group because since I have joined I have felt very welcome as everyone speaks to you and everyone is really nice. I also enjoy the outings that the group holds because they are fun and enjoyable.

"Friendly members and so much support by people who are affected by cancer in one way or another. A place to go where you don't feel isolated and alone. Being able to give support as well as receive it. A good source of information."

"Flowers and cards were sent to me on behalf of the group and this meant a lot to me - that people cared how I was. I have enjoyed the contact with people in the same position as myself and the social side and fundraising has been important to me.
It gives me great satisfaction to help others with cancer, as I now understand what they are going through."
Margaret Bailey

"Being a member of the group has meant a social outing each month, making new friends and getting any support I need throughout the year. Attending conferences increases knowledge of what is being done for cancer - also giving more information about complementary therapies."

"The best place to come to help with your ordeal be it for yourself or someone near. Have a laugh or a cry with some lovely people who have had something happen to them. I have enjoyed some good meeting nights, nice outings and a very good laugh at the pantomime in January. All good friends and jolly good company."

"When I finished all my treatments for cancer I felt very alone. I had been going to hospital regularly and this had made me feel supported. When treatments finish you lose this support. This is when I found the group. They gave me the feeling of support and more. For the first time I felt I could speak freely without upsetting or embarrassing anyone. To come to the group the first time was difficult but they were so welcoming I left with the feeling that I could hardly wait till the next meeting. I realised how good it had felt to talk with people who understood."

"The friendliness of the members is amazing! Felt I could speak about my fears and anxieties, which I could not do with my close family. Members were keen to listen. Workshops and conferences I have found helpful and interesting and so pleasant to meet friends from other groups. I feel the social side of the group is very well organized. I always look forward to the monthly meeting. Recently the therapy treatment has been very beneficial. Our group has made many very good friends. A lovely cup of tea is enjoyed at the monthly meetings."
